more progress on this one! i’m quite happy with the ‘copper roof’ and this bit of signage. i don’t know if the roof was actually copper, but the colour seemed to suit the piece anyway.

fun fact: the hotel (renamed the “hotel victoria” in 1927) is still standing at 56 yonge street in toronto - you can go and stay there today!

i should be putting the finishing touches on all the embroidered pieces this weekend… and then hanging the show early next week. yikes.

i’m reworking the embroidery on this one - not finished yet, but so far i’m quite happy with it.

after much experimentation i think i’ve finally found the right stitches, thread weight & colours that work well with these pieces.

Hi there! I love your work. I'm a fellow printmaker and I've never even considered using masonite for woodcuts. Do you think it is easier to carve than a shina or cherry wood? It seems to hold a line incredibly and now you've inspired me to try a tiny one. :)

Hi! Thanks! I wouldn’t say it’s “easier” to carve… but there are things about it that make it easier for me to work with - it holds tiny lines incredibly well and it’s completely smooth so large flat areas tend to print quite evenly. Also, it’s VERY affordable - a huge bonus for me, especially when I’m working on something large! It’s really hard on your tools, though. I keep a sharpening stone beside me AT ALL TIMES when I’m carving. You should totally try it! Good luck!

i printed a bunch of my blocks on fabric today - i was quite surprised with how evenly they printed. really happy with the turnout!

i took a bunch of photos, but it was rather hard to capture the “fabricness” of them on camera (it just looked like paper) - so here’s a shot of one artfully draped over the drying rack & a close-up.
